Actress Shamna Kasim aka Poorna is all thrilled and a tad keyed up! The Chattakkari fame actress recently signed the Kollywood film Savarakathi, which will be directed by G R Aditya, a disciple of noted director Mysskin. The movie has been scripted by the ace director and he is also playing the antagonist in the film.
Apparently, Shamna's role has raised a few eyebrows as it was rejected by several leading ladies of Kollywood. Shamna says, "The role was apparently rejected by six heroines before I boldly took it up. However, at this moment, I am going through a cauldron of emotions."
Explains the artiste, "I am not permitted to divulge the exact nature of my role. I have to say that the team was very open about the expectations attached to it. That was also the reason why many heroines had said no to it. I was given some time to think about it, before giving a final answer."
Though the actress has not divulged any detail about the movie, it is said that the film is a racy crime thriller with Chennai as the backdrop.
She is also excited to get trained for her part for the movie. "The team will train me to speak the required slang and enact the body language. I wouldn't have any make up for the role and Mysskin sir even asked me to be ready to get boiled in the Chennai sun," she says, laughing.
Shamna says that there are two reasons why she said 'yes' to the role. She elaborates, "I have regretted saying 'no' to a director who wanted to bank on my dancing skills for an amazing role, in the past. I didn't want to repeat the mistake. Also, I loved the way my character is scripted by Mysskin. What leads me is the conviction that as an artiste, attempting versatile roles will help me improve."
Isn't she worried about what made others say no to the role? "No. Honestly I am thrilled and at times I also get jitters while thinking of doing justice to the role. Nevertheless, I would like to thank all of those heroines for saying no to this character," Shamna says.
"Tamil is almost like my mother tongue and for quite some time, I had been concentrating on Telugu. I am extremely happy and look forward to be back there," she signs off.
