'Jinn' is a horror movie with friendship

'Jinn' is a horror movie with friendship

There is no stopping the flux of horror movies in Kollywood and one of the films in the pipeline is Jinn, directed by Sathish Chandrasekaran. What's different in this film is that the director claims it to be a true account of what happened in his life. "I was working as a software consultant and then made short films before turning film director. This story is based on two experiences that my friends and I had experienced. We used to go on holiday trips often and during two trips, one at a resort near Chennai and one in Kodaikanal, we were witness to strange occurrences that haunted us for a long time," says Sathish.

Based on these incidents, Sathish came up with a plot for a film — what is one of the friends was possessed by an evil spirit? And that is why, he says, he has titled the film Jinn, which means possession in Arabic. "I studied in a Muslim institution and many of my Muslim friends used to attribute paranormal activities to Jinn," he adds.

While the recent Demonte Colony also had a plot of a possessed youngster terrorizing his friends, Sathish says this one lays more stress on friendship. "It is more about how the man's friends try to save him from the spirit that has taken possession of him," he explains.
Kalaiarasan, Kaali Venkat, Arjunan, Hari (who played Johnny in Madras), and Sathish's friend Rameez play the five friends in the film while Ramdas (Munishkanth in Mundasupatti) has been cast in the role of a forest guard. The film is set in Vaalpaarai and the team has shot in the famous bungalow that was featured in MGR's Anbe Vaa.
